Why We Love Breakfast (and You Should Too!)

Raise your hand if you eat breakfast every day! Did some of you want to shrink down in your seat when we asked that question?
Would you admit that you skip breakfast often? Or that you grab a hot cup of coffee, and you are off and running! 
Don't do that! No, no, no! 
Today we are going to remind you of the amazing things a nutritious breakfast can do for yourself and your family! 

 Mom Knows Best

Mom does know best! Your mom is feeding you a nutritious daily breakfast to give you the best fuel to make it through your day. 
Mornings in my home, as a child, started with warm smells of eggs, biscuits, toast, pancakes, coffee, sausage, fruit, and bacon. I can smell it now! Looking back on it, as a mother myself, I see all the wonderful ways in which it impacted our lives.
Mom serves you a fabulous, nutritious breakfast to keep you healthy and happy. It begins the day in a positive way. Full bellies can learn more, focus better. It gives adults and children that special time together to gather around the table and face the day with smiles!

Blast Fat with Breakfast 

Some of us need help with weight management. Breakfast can help with that! If you are trying to lose weight or maintain a healthy weight, eating breakfast will kickstart your metabolism for the day. What is metabolism? In this article from RUSH University Medical Center, it's explained that Metabolism is a process. It's the way our cells change the food we eat into the energy we need to breathe, move, think, and do . . . everything.
What's a Dietitian's opinion about eating breakfast? Keren Gilbert, MS, RD, president/founder of Decision Nutrition says People who eat breakfast regularly get more vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients in their diets,” Gilbert says, “because there are wonderful food choices to include in this meal that are nutritionally dense, like fruit, whole grains, and lean proteins.”

 Are You Stressed Moody or Can't Focus?

Eating breakfast prevents hunger pains and unhealthy snacking and holds us over until lunch. We can go to work or school to learn well. Breakfast makes us better students, employees, and co-workers. Our ability to focus is incredibly better and we can learn easier. Those are super benefits. 
When our body is given good fuel, we feel better overall. If you feel depressed or stressed a lot, try adding a daily, nutritious breakfast to your routine. This will make an enormous difference and your body will appreciate it! Improve your mood and become less stressed!


So… what should we eat for breakfast?  , Contributor

The answer is basic healthy eating advice: fruits and vegetables, whole (unprocessed) grains, and healthy proteins and fats according to www.health.harvard.edu . 

I put together a quick, easy fruit/yogurt/grain/nut bowl every single day. Here’s my three-ingredient recipe:

  • Frozen fruit: berries, mixed fruit, fruit with kale bits, whatever. Fruit is frozen at the peak of freshness, so the quality and vitamin content can be better than what’s in the produce aisle. We buy large bags of frozen mixed berries at the wholesale club or discount grocery, as they are much more economical than fresh and don’t go bad.
  • Nuts and/or seeds and/or grains of your preference: for example, unsalted nuts, toasted seeds or grains, or a combination such as a low-sugar granola. You can find my recipe for no-added-sugars granola here.
  • Your favorite yogurt, ideally plain or low-sugar.

Of course, there are many more nutritious breakfast food options such as grapefruit, oatmeal, eggs, whole grain toast, spinach, apples, bannanas, watermelon, nut butter, peanut butter, tea, and granola.
