Tips for Living A Healthier Lifestyle

Tips for living a healthier lifestyle

It's that latest craze, living a healthier lifestyle. Are you falling behind? It will eventually catch up to you or it may have already.

Simple signs are just the beginning, like going upstairs puts you out of breath. Playing with the kids wears you down and you never have enough energy. You have put on weight rapidly. The doctor says your blood pressure is too high. You feel poorly and are tired all the time.

Things will only grow worse, so it's time to make some changes to be the best you can be.

Shake Off the Negative

Yes, shake off those negative people or messages that are trying to get in and crowd your happiness. Walk away. Change your surroundings. Change your routine. Being around negative vibes or talk can bring your own health down. Who needs that? Encourage them to change their outlook and move on.

Change Daily Routines

Feel bad or depressed most of the day? It's time for a change. Add a 15-minute morning power walk. Get up and take a refreshing shower every morning. Take a lunch, instead of skipping it. Take time to read. Limit yourself on electronic or social media time. Get outside more. Meditate.

Cut Out Foods with Sugar

Sugar can seriously make you feel terrible and it's highly addictive. It's true. You don't just naturally crave all those chocolate donuts, YOU have trained your body to want them. Start reading labels. Start buying foods low in sugar. Ditch the pop. Fill your body with natural vitamins and minerals from real food. Add more protein. Eat good foods more often and watch those cravings fade away.

Limit Your Social Media Time

This is the best advice I can give you for living healthier. We are all too dependent and distracted by devices and our online world. How much time do you waste on social media each day? AND you say you don't have time to exercise, let's be real here. You have time. It's what you choose to do with that time that really matters. Life is passing you by. Start living again, without social media being a priority.

Sleep is for Sanity

To be able to focus, be productive and stay sane, we must have adequate sleep. This is when our body rejuvenates. This is how our body systems can run properly. If you aren't catching many zzzz's it's time to act. Change your bedtime routine. Do something like take a bath, reading or stretching to wind down. NO phones. NO T.V. If you believe you have a medical issue preventing sleep, see your doctor as soon as possible.

Make A Commitment to Eat Healthy

Make a list and go get it. Come home and meal prep. Pinterest has some amazing recipes that are quick and simple. Make a commitment to having good foods on hand and at your fingertips. It's okay to enjoy a cookie or piece of chocolate cake every now and then. However, it's what you do most of the time that matters.

Leave Stress Behind

It's certainly not easy to just stop being 'stressed' or to stop worrying. Some people are just built this way. But there's no denying it kills your health. It's important for you to identify what is causing the stress and worry, do this step. Then decide a plan of 'letting it go' and how to do it. Everyone is different. Some people go for a walk of a bike ride when they feel stress coming on.  Go for a long bath or shower. Put in a movie. Do a 15-minute workout. Call a friend. Jump in the hot tub. Find what naturally calms you and do it often.

Living a healthier lifestyle doesn't just mean exercise and healthy eating. There are many things we do each day that impact our health as well. If you can start implementing small changes, you may be surprised just how wonderful you feel inside and out!
